I've Had a Hair Colour Disaster - Can I Dye Over the Problem Colour?

We get asked this very often with dealing with hair colour disasters!  Applying a new shade over the old hair colour won’t necessarily fix your hair colour problem and could actually make it worse, so the answer is "no".

If your hair has been coloured previously and has a build up of hair colour, if it has been over-processed or has been damaged by the sun, this will affect different sections of the hair in different ways.   The best thing to do is let an Esente colour expert analyse your hair, and we can then decide on a bespoke mixture of tones and shades which would best restore your desired hair colour.

We understand the temptation to colour your hair at home, but trust us when we say it is not worth the risk!  At our Wimbledon hair salon, we fix home hair colour disasters all the time and you can rest assured that we can fix yours too!

My Hair Has Been Over-Bleached & Is Breaking - Will I Have to Cut It Off?

Over-bleaching hair can cause it to become dry and brittle, resulting in it breaking and splitting.  We never recommend bleaching your hair at home because the process requires expert care to maintain your hair's condition.  If your hair has been damaged by bleaching, the good news is that we can repair it without resorting to cutting off the damaged hair.

We use Kevin Murphy hair colour products and are the experts and knowing which products will work best for your particular hair issues. We can also recommend a range of hair repair treatments which will repair the bonds in your hair to restore your hair to a healthy condition.

My Hair Has Turned Orange - What Should I Do?

When using box dye hair colour at home, it is notoriously difficult to achieve the same colour that you see advertised on the package.  Blonde hair can turn green or brassy blonde, while brunettes wanting to subtly lighten their hair often end up with a bright orange colour.

If this happens to you, it’s important to seek professional help immediately. Speak to one of our hair colour experts, who can discuss options and explain how long the hair colour change process will take.  Do not try and colour your hair again at home! This can make your colour worse and damage your hair further.

My Hair Colour Is Uneven!

Patchy, uneven hair colour is another common problem with at-home hair dyes.  Hair colouring is a technical skill and an art form, which means it is always best to get your hair coloured professionally. We will assess each section of your hair and treat each area to ensure you end up with a blended, beautiful hair colour.

Our expert hair colourists don't just fix hair colour disasters, we have received specialist training to correct common hair colour problems including:

  • Highlights that are too orange/gold in colour
  • Blonde hair that has become brassy or too white
  • Dark bands of overlapping hair colour caused by repeated home colouring
  • Faded hair colour
  • Hair that has turned green in tone
  • Hair colour that is too dark or too light
